Salvia pachyphylla
MOJAVE SAGE
Salvia pachyphylla has spectacular heads of rich blue & rose.
And the colourful blooms are massed above silvery, aromatic foliage.
Because dazzling Mojave Sage is long blooming over summer & autumn, and is wonderfully hardy in a hot, dry climate, it has become a darling of gardeners who cope with hot, and dry conditions.
So plant Salvia pachyphylla in any Full Sun, exposed position.
Where you will find it obligingly water-wise.
As well as hardy in frost, dry and as much heat as you can chuck at it.
Plus Salvia pachyphylla thrives in poor soils, including sandy & lime based soils.
So it is particularly well suited to seaside positions as well as gardens with sandy, gravel and very well drained soils.
Salvia pachyphylla is a hardy evergreen perennial shrub which (as it’s name suggests) is native to desert areas of the American west.
So it is an easy, low maintenance shrubby perennial.
Approx. 75cm High x 75cm Wide .
SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Sow at any time of year in punnets indoors.
Indoors: Sow in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix. Press gently. Barely cover. Light is needed for germination.
Keep moist. 20-25C approx. is best for germination, then most seedlings should emerge in approx. 10-14 days.
But do not discard – desert plants naturally stagger germination.
If no germination -Wrap punnet in cling-wrap and place in fridge for 4 weeks. Unwrap and return to 20-25C.
Seed Count: 10 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated count, and give a generous serve).
