Packed with large, double, clear mid-blue flowers, each with a sparkling white centre “bee”.

Loads of flowers

Plant ‘Blue Bird Premium’ in Sun to a little Part Shade.
And be generous with feeding and mulch, because ‘Blue Bird’ rewards your generosity with even plumper, taller, more flower laden spires.
It has stout, strong stems. But because it has such a big load of flowers it is well worth providing some support with a cage to spire up through, or a tripod or a stake to support the stems.

Robustly frost hardy

Delphinium x grandiflorum ‘Blue Bird Premium’ is robustly frost hardy.
As it is able to withstand frosts down to well below -20C, depending on conditions.

So it makes easy growing, low maintenance, perennial clumps, as long as it is generously fed.

Neat clump of pretty foliage.
Protect from snails in early spring.

Rabbit & deer resistant

It is a rare night when rabbits or deer will nibble on a Delphinium. They seem to dislike the taste and positively avoid them.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow Delphinium seeds in autumn, winter or spring.

Sow indoors for quick & best germination:
A cunning trick which improves the rate and speed of germination with Delphiniums – is to precondition the seeds.

So first place the seeds between two sheets of wet coffee filter paper or wet paper towel, in a sealed plastic bag, and place in fridge for 36 hours.

Then remove, and sow the seeds in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Now cover with 5mm of sieved mix or sandy grit.

And thoroughly moisten the whole punnet by standing in a shallow water bath, and allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.

Now place the moist, sown punnet in a warm, well-lit position (not in direct sunlight).

Temperatures of 18-21°C approx. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.

And continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle as required.

Most seedlings emerge in approx. 10-20 days.

But do not discard punnet as some seeds may come later. This is a natural process for this plant because it staggers the germination of it’s seeds to give them a better chance of sprouting into favourable weather conditions.
